I hate heartbreak…

Alicia Sacramone had arguably one of toughest Olympics.  She fell off the beam and missed a landing in the floor exercise during the team finals, which many say cost TEAM USA the gold medal.  She bounced back in the individual vault finals with two very good vaults with very good landings.  But, because of start value, she was knocked out of medal contention by three imperfect vaults.  In fact, the bronze medal winner fell during one of her landings.  And, the gold medal winner landed out of bounds.  Poor girl…

I hate that Mickelson can’t step it up…

Tiger is out for an entire season, including 2 majors.  You’d think that Mickelson would seize the opportunity to get a couple of wins and a major title.  But, nope.  Instead, Padraig Harrington posts back-to-back major wins.  Well, at least someone is stepping into the spotlight…

I hate the time zone difference…

The 2008 Olympics are under way.  Yet, we aren’t scheduled to see the Opening Ceremony until tonight.  By that point, several medals will have been awarded.  That’s a bit frustrating…and weird.

I love a good controversy…

So, Brett Favre’s back.   His papers have been filed.  The commissioner approved the reinstatement.  And, apparently, the GB Packers are welcoming him back with open arms.  As of now, the Green Bay management team has promised an open competition for the starting job.  Can Aaron Rodgers (with zero NFL starts) take the job from one of the best the game has ever seen?  Will Brett Favre actually stay a Green Bay Packer?  Stay tuned…

I hate the Cobra Kai dojo…

Here’s a little segment I like to call ’sports movies that I like’.  The Karate Kid is a classic.  ‘Sweep the leg.’  ‘Get the body bag.’  ‘Wax on.  Wax off.’  The training and fight montages.  The crane kick.  Elizabeth Shue in her prime.  It has it all.  And, amazingly, it still holds up today.  Rent it.  Download it.  Netflix it.  Whatever.

I hate Michelle Wie…

Michelle Wie dropped out of an LPGA Major tournament this weekend to play in a secondary PGA tournament. Wie has never won an LPGA event, so she isn’t even the best female golfer. And, she hasn’t made the cut in a PGA event, so she can’t even compete with the men. I don’t understand why she even bothers. What’s she thinking?

I hate how they’ve treated JoePa…

As a Penn State alum, I’ve seen the good and the bad from Joe Paterno and the Nittany Lions.  I was a student during the historic Rose Bowl win with Kerry Collins, Ki-Jana Carter, and Kyle Brady.  I’ve also struggled through the horrible losing stretch from 2002-2004.  And, at 81, he’s still coaching.  And, he has amassed a 29-9 record over the last 3 seasons amidst media, student, and alumni protest that he should hang it up.  The guy’s a living legend.  One win off the Division 1 record for most career wins.  Shouldn’t he be able to go out on his own terms?

I hate the Philly Sports Jinx…

The Philadelphia Soul won the ArenaBowl yesterday bringing the first championship to Philadelphia in a long time.  Unfortunately, the Philadelphia Soul play in the AFL and, by many–myself included, this does not rank as a true championship.  NFL, MLB, NBA, & NHL.  The big 4.  Does the AFL rank #5?  Maybe.  But, Philadelphia wants/needs a big 4 title.  In fact, as of this writing, a Philadelphia Inquirer poll had 73% of respondents stating that this win does not effect their feelings about the Philadelphia Sports Jinx.  Poor Jon Bon Jovi.  Well, at least the fans will get a free concert from Soul owner Jon Bon Jovi as promised.

I hate 18-1…

I’ll admit it.  I was rooting for the Patriots to go 19-0 last season.  I wanted to see history.  I wanted to see the record-setting season completed.  I also wanted to see the Giants lose.  But, none of that happened.  So, now, we reboot for Perfect Season 2.0.  The Patriots are gearing up to avoid the Superbowl loss hangover.  What’s happening at this prep session?

I love the olympics…

Yep.  I said it.  I love the olympics.  And, not because of the gymnastics and the swimming which seem to dominate the telecasts.  Basketball. Track & Field.  And, basketball.  The USA is bringing another all-star team.  And, while this team isn’t exactly the original ‘Dream Team’, we’re looking pretty good with Kobe Bryant on board.  What’s he thinking?
